QUESTION: Who is required to have a Nebraska Electrician license?

ANSWER: The State of Nebraska Electrical Division must license any individual engaged in the electrical contracting business or performing work as an Electrical Contractor, Journeyman Electrician, or Residential Journeyman Electrician.


QUESTION: What are the qualifications required for taking the Nebraska Electrician exam?

Electrical Contractor: Be a graduate of a four-year electrical engineering course in an accredited college or university and have at least one year experience, acceptable to the board, as a journeyman electrician.

  • OR; Have at least one year experience, acceptable to the Board, as a licensed journeyman electrician;

Journeyman Electrician: Have at least 4 years of verifiable experience acceptable to the Board.

  • OR; 3 years verifiable experience acceptable to the Board; and successful completion of a post-high school course in electrical wiring with a Degree in Electrical Technology received. See State Electrical Act, Board Rule 8 for details.

Residential Journeyman Electrician: Have at least 3 years of verifiable experience acceptable to the Board.

QUESTION: Is there reciprocity in Nebraska for the electrician exams?

QUESTION: How do I sign up for the Nebraska Electrician exam?

ANSWER: You must fill out and submit the Application for State Electrical license paper or online form and all documentation to the State of Nebraska.

Upon approval from the Board, you will receive a notification letter via mail. You will then contact PSI to pay and schedule the examination.

A third-party testing center, PSI Exams administer the exam. You can contact PSI with any questions at (855) 340-3713. The hours of operation are Monday through Friday between 5:30 am and 8:00 pm or Saturday through Sunday between 7:00 am and 3:30 pm, Mountain Time.


QUESTION: Are there any accommodations for the Nebraska Electrician Exams?

ANSWER: All PSI examination centers are equipped to provide access in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990, and exam accommodations will be made in meeting a candidate’s needs. A candidate with a disability or a candidate who would otherwise have difficulty taking the examination should request alternative arrangements by contacting the State Electrical Division at 402-471-1058.


QUESTION: How many questions and how long are the Nebraska Electrician exams?

The Master Electrician exam consists of 100 multiple-choice questions. Test takers have 270 minutes to complete the exam. The exam is open-book with authorized materials and computer-based.

The Journeyman Electrician exam consists of 80 multiple-choice questions. Test takers have 240 minutes to complete the exam. The exam is open-book with authorized materials and computer-based.

The Residential Wireman exam consists of 50 multiple-choice questions. Test takers have 180 minutes to complete the exam. The exam is open-book with authorized materials and computer-based.


QUESTION: What can I bring to the PSI testing center?

ANSWER:

  • Approved references
  • Prescription eyeglasses
  • Only non-programmable calculators that are silent, battery-operated, do not have paper tape printing capabilities, and do not have a keyboard containing the alphabet will be allowed in the examination site.

QUESTION: Where do I go to take my Nebraska Electrician exam?
