Applicants for the unlimited Journeyman Electrician license must demonstrate a minimum of 8,000 Verifiable hours on the job experience in electrical construction work while employed by an electrical contractor and registered as an apprentice under the direct supervision of a licensed journeyman or licensed contractor, 4,000 hours must be in commercial/ industrial work, 2,000 hours may be satisfied by formal electrical education.
Applicants for the Residential Journeyman Electrician license are limited to wiring one and two-family dwellings and must demonstrate a minimum of 4,000 Verifiable hours on the job experience in electrical construction work while employed by an electrical contractor and registered as an apprentice under the direct supervision of a licensed journeyman or licensed contractor. 1,000 hours may be satisfied by formal electrical education.

Get Licensed! Oklahoma law requires all working electricians to be licensed if performing work as an Unlimited Journeyman Electrician or as a Residential Journeyman Electrician. If you do not possess a current Oklahoma Electrician license, you may be working illegally.
Complete the appropriate application and submit it to the Oklahoma Construction Industries Board ASAP. Applications are reviewed quarterly. Once your application is accepted, you have 90 days from the approval date to take your exam.

QUESTION: How do I sign up for the exam?
ANSWER: You must fill out and submit the Journeyman Application for Electrical Licensure form to the Oklahoma Construction Industries Board to be approved to take the exam.

QUESTION: What else can I bring into the testing center?
ANSWER:

The Oklahoma General Electrician exam is a closed-book examination. No reference materials are allowed during the exam. You will not be permitted entry with any reference materials.
The Oklahoma Journeyman Electrician exam is an open book 80 question, multiple-choice exam. You will have four choices per question. Some questions may require mathematical computation.
All exam questions are written to provide only one BEST answer and NOT written as trick questions.
