QUESTION: What are the qualifications required for taking the Florida Electrician exam?
Master Electrician:
- You generally need to have 7 years of experience as a journeyman electrician.
Journeyman Electrician:
- You need at least 4 years of experience working as an electrician, which should be documented and verified by your employer.
**We have found that most cities or counties have these specific experience requirements, but since they can vary from county to county in Florida, it’s important to check with your local board for the most accurate information.
QUESTION: Is there reciprocity in Florida for the electrician exams?
ANSWER: Florida does not currently have any reciprocity with other states for electrical licenses.
QUESTION: How do I sign up for the Florida Electrician exam?
ANSWER: The most common testing center in Florida is PROV, but some counties also utilize Prometric or Gainesville Testing Services.

QUESTION: Are there any accommodations for the Florida Electrician exams?
ANSWER: Prov complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) in providing special accommodations for candidates who require additional assistance during the testing process. If candidates feel that they qualify for special accommodation during testing, they should contact Prov at (866) 720-7768. Prov will require written documentation from a licensed physician or psychologist documenting the disability and further require a request describing the requested remedy. Prov will then work directly with the candidates to make the accommodations they will need in order to complete their examination.
QUESTION: How many questions and how long are the Florida Electrician licensing exams?
The Master Electrician exam: As this does vary slightly the most common consists of 75 multiple-choice questions. Test takers have 3 Hours to complete the exam. The exam is open-book with authorized materials and computer-based.
The Journeyman Electrician exam: As this does vary slightly the most common consists of 70 multiple-choice questions. Test takers have 3 Hours to complete the exam. The exam is open-book with authorized materials and computer-based.
The testing centers allow the following codebooks:
- The NFPA 70 – National Electrical Code 2014, 2017, or 2020 Edition depending on which year you are testing on.

ANSWER: To take your Florida Electrician license exams, you will need to visit a testing center designated by the county in which you are applying. The most common testing centers in Florida include:
