QUESTION: Are electricians required to have a Master, Journeyman, or Residential license to work in Kansas?

ANSWER: It depends on the county in which you will be performing electrical work.

Some of the counties we have found: Sedgwick County, Wichita, Topeka, Wyandotte County, Kansas City. The above list is not all-inclusive.


QUESTION: What are the qualifications required for taking the Kansas Electrician exam?

ANSWER: Always check with your county licensing board for specifics as it varies from city to city or county.


QUESTION: How do I sign up for the Kansas Electrician exam?

ANSWER: You must fill out and submit the License Application form to your local county or city qualifying board to be approved to take the exam.

Upon approval: You may schedule an examination online at PearsonVUE. Follow the directions under “Contractor/Trade Licensing.” You may also schedule an examination over the phone by contacting Pearson VUE at 1-877- 234-6082, following the scheduling procedures listed in this bulletin.


QUESTION: Are there any accommodations for the Kansas Electrician exams?

ANSWER: What if I need testing accommodations? If you have a disability that prohibits you from taking the examination under standard conditions, you may request special arrangements.

QUESTION: How many questions and how long are the Kansas Electrician licensing exams?

The KGD Master Electrician exam consists of 100 multiple-choice questions. Test takers have 5 Hours to complete the exam. The exam is open-book with authorized materials and computer-based.

The KGH Journeyman Electrician exam consists of 80 multiple-choice questions. Test takers have 4 Hours to complete the exam. The exam is open-book with authorized materials and computer-based.

The KGX Residential Electrician exam consists of 60 multiple-choice questions. Test takers have 3 Hours to complete the exam. The exam is open-book with authorized materials and computer-based.

The following codebooks are allowed by the testing center.

  • The NFPA 70 – National Electrical Code, 2017 Edition.

QUESTION: What can I bring to the PearsonVUE testing center?

ANSWER:

  • Identification
  • Approved references
    • You may highlight your book, tab different sections, and leave notes in your reference material, however, loose paper in your reference material will not be allowed

ANSWER: Pearson VUE – Traditional, computer-based testing occurs at test sites administered by Pearson VUE frequently at over 350 sites across the nation. To locate test sites in your area, visit the Pearson VUE website for an updated listing of sites. Be aware that test sites are subject to change.


QUESTION: Why should someone study this course if the Kansas electrician license exam is an open-book test?
