QUESTION: Who is required to have a Wyoming Electrician license?

ANSWER: The Wyoming Electrical Safety Board must license any individual who is engaged in the electrical contracting business or is performing work as a Master or Journeyman Electrician


QUESTION: What are the qualifications required for taking the Wyoming Electrician exam?

Master Electrician:

  • For an applicant to take the Wyoming Master electrician’s exam, the applicant must present evidence of 8 years (16,000 hours) of work experience in the electrical wiring industry, of which 4 years (8,000 hours) is documented as a licensed journeyman, and 576 hours of electrically related classroom instruction required.
    • This work history must include evidence of experience in planning, laying out, and NEC and shall have been under the direct supervision of a qualifying electrician for a licensed electrical contractor. Electrical work experience is to consist of electrical installation in residential, commercial, and industrial categories.

Journeyman Electrician:

  • For an applicant to take the Wyoming Journeyman Electrician’s exam, the applicant must present evidence of 4 years (8,000 hours) of work experience in the electrical wiring industry and 144 hours per year, or 576 hours over a four-year apprenticeship, of successfully completed electrically related classroom instruction obtained through a Department of Labor approved electrical apprenticeship training program.
    • This work history must include evidence of experience in planning,  laying out, and NEC and shall have been under the direct supervision of a qualifying electrician for a licensed electrical contractor. Electrical work experience is to consist of electrical installation in residential, commercial, and industrial categories.
      • No more than 75% of the 4 years (8,000 hours) may be in any one category. Up to 2 years (4,000 hours) credit may be given for study of electrically related courses taken through an accredited school exceeding the 576 hours required. For electrical experience gained in the military to be considered, you must upload a copy of your DD-214 form in the application.

QUESTION: Is there reciprocity in Wyoming for the electrician exams?

Master Electrician: The State of Wyoming has a reciprocal agreement with the following states:

  • Idaho, South Dakota, and Iowa

Journeyman Electrician: The State of Wyoming has a reciprocal agreement with the following states:

  • Alaska, Arkansas, Colorado, Idaho, Maine, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Texas and Iowa

QUESTION: How do I sign up for the Wyoming Electrician exam?

ANSWER: You must fill out and submit the Application for an Electrician’s License form to the Wyoming Electrical Board to be approved to take the exam.

Upon approval: You may schedule an examination online at PearsonVUE. Follow the directions under “Contractor/Trade Licensing.” You may also schedule an examination over the phone by contacting Pearson VUE at 1-877- 234-6082, following the scheduling procedures listed in this bulletin.

QUESTION: How many questions and how long are the Wyoming Electrician licensing exams?

701 Wyoming Master Electrician: consists of 100 multiple-choice questions. Test takers have 5 hours to complete the exam. The exam is open-book with authorized materials and computer-based.

385 Wyoming Journeyman Electrician: consists of 80 multiple-choice questions. Test takers have 4 hours to complete the exam. The exam is open-book with authorized materials and computer-based.


QUESTION: What can I bring to the PearsonVUE testing center?

ANSWER:

    • Are bound (either original bound book, three-ring binder, or stapled). Photocopies of copyrighted materials are not allowed.

QUESTION: Where do I go to take my Wyoming Electrician license exams?

ANSWER: Pearson VUE – Traditional, computer-based testing occurs at test sites administered by Pearson VUE frequently at over 350 sites across the nation. To locate test sites in your area, visit the Pearson VUE website for an updated listing of sites. Be aware that test sites are subject to change.


QUESTION: Why should someone study this course if the Wyoming electrician license exam is an open-book test?
