QUESTION: What does the CAGC SC Trades Certification cover?

ANSWER: The program offers Journeyman Electrician, Master Electrician, Journeyman Electrician Residential, and Master Residential Electrician exams. The CAGC trade certification card confirms that the holder has met the experience and written-exam qualifications for the certification level. It is separate from a state contractor’s license. QUESTION: What qualifications are required to take a South Carolina electrician exam?

ANSWER: CAGC sets the experience and examination requirements for each certification level. Requirements may differ by level. Review the current [CAGC certification application] and contact CAGC with eligibility questions at **803-933-1209** or **cagctrades@cagcfoundation.org**

QUESTION: Is reciprocity available?

ANSWER: The CAGC application provides a reciprocity application option. CAGC determines eligibility and the credentials it accepts. Review the [current application] and contact CAGC before applying.

QUESTION: How do I sign up for the CAGE Electrician exam?​

ANSWER: First submit the [CAGC SC Trades Certification application]. After approval, Prov will notify you that you can schedule your exam. Schedule online through the [Prov scheduler] or call **866-720-7768**. Testing may be available at a Prov facility or remotely through Examroom; check the scheduler for current options.

QUESTION: Are there any accommodations for the South Carolina Electrician exams?

ANSWER: Prov provides accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Contact Prov at **866-720-7768**. Prov requires written documentation from a licensed physician or psychologist and a request describing the accommodation needed.

QUESTION: How many questions are on each electrician exam, and how much time is allowed?​

The Master Electrician exam consists of 100 multiple-choice questions. Test takers have 4 hours to complete the exam. The exam is open-book with authorized materials and computer-based.0

The Journeyman Electrician exam consists of 70 multiple-choice questions. Test takers have 3 hours to complete the exam. The exam is open-book with authorized materials and computer-based.

The Master Residential Electrician exam consists of 65 multiple-choice questions. Test takers have 3 hours to complete the exam. The exam is open-book with authorized materials and computer-based.

The Journeyman Electrician Residential exam consists of 65 multiple-choice questions. Test takers have 3 hours to complete the exam. The exam is open-book with authorized materials and computer-based.

The following codebooks are allowed by the testing center.

• The NFPA 70 – National Electrical Code, 2020 Edition.

QUESTION: Where can I take a South Carolina electrician exam?

ANSWER: Prov offers testing at its facilities, including locations in South Carolina, and remote testing may be available through Examroom. Locations and appointment availability can change, so check the [Prov scheduler] for current options. The [Candidate Information Bulletin] also includes testing information.

QUESTION: What can I bring to the testing center?

ANSWER: Prov’s bulletin lists these approved items:

– Pencils
– Approved reference books
– A simple four-function calculator

PDAs, tablets, cell phones, and other special calculators are not permitted. Follow the current bulletin’s rules for preparing reference books.

QUESTION: Why study for an open-book electrician exam?

ANSWER: The electrical licensing exam is a very challenging test and usually requires a month or more of preparation to pass.

The 2020 NEC is a large and complex publication containing over 800 pages of code. It is challenging to locate each correct article and answer in the time allowed during the exam without thorough preparation.

Our course is designed to familiarize you with the 2020 NEC. You will know precisely how to find the correct answers in the code when you take your exam.

ANSWER: The South Carolina Master/Journeyman/Residential Electrical License Exam is based on the 2020 NEC. This course is an excellent study companion to the Code. This course makes frequent references to code sections and guides you through the exam topics.

The Electrical Licensing Exam is an open-book code exam. To pass, you must continuously reference the 2020 National Electrical Code.
